If you are looking for a vacation home on the River for total relaxation surrounded by nature, La Casa sul Ponte in Travo in the province of Piacenza, managed by Jessica Barghini, is the perfect place.
Who is Jessica Barghini?
Jessica Barghini was born on Elba Island and moved to Piacenza during middle school.
After high school language school, she decided to gain experience abroad, which led her to live and work in Egypt for eight years, and later to Zanzibar and the United States, where she held important positions in the tourism industry.
During the pandemic, he decided to return to Italy and turned a house in Travo into a cozy accommodation facility: “La Casa sul Ponte”.
Travo in Piacenza: my experience. Amazing people, encounters and places
I will now tell you what my travel experience was.
You know when you are in mental chaos and need to unplug?
For me, the trip to Travo was a real salvation.
I arrived at 8:00 a.m. in Piacenza.
I took the opportunity to visit the city, with its impressive characteristic churches, including the Duomo.
Here I was finally able to admire the frescoes by Guercino and Ludovico Carracci.
The first stop, however, was Piazza Dei Cavalli, the hub of the city, characterized by the palaces and equestrian statues of Ranuccio and Alessandro Farnese.
How then to miss the Basilica of Sant’Antonino, one of the most important Romanesque basilicas in Italy.
Around 11 a.m., a breakfast and smart working at the café and we head to Travo!
How to get to Travo by public transportation - Piacenza
To get to Travo, I bought a ticket at the Central Station (cost about 4 euros).
With my fellow Social Media Strategist Roberto Pasqualini, we left from the Via Colombo Bus Station, within walking distance of Piacenza Station (about 5 minutes).
You can read here all the timetables for getting to Travo and surrounding locations in the province of Piacenza.
Upon arriving in the country, Jessica, host of La Casa sul Ponte B&B welcomed us with enthusiasm and warmth.
I wanted to ask her a few questions before we set off on our adventure.
Hi Jessica! Tell us a little bit about. How did the House on the Bridge the B&B in the Trebbia Valley in Travo come about?
Hi Sara!
It is a real pleasure to welcome you to my B&B.
The House on the Bridge in Travo was born from a real inspiration but it is the result of 4 years of intense work.
There was a moment: I walked into a room, still completely empty: I saw the light, the Trebbia, the snow outside.
I thought, “People have to be welcomed here.”
So I would say: the House on the Bridge in Travo was born out of the need to share beauty.
What can you tell us about your experience as a B&B host in the Trebbia Valley?
I come from a family where we always had rentals and rooms, so I kind of grew up in this world.
So when you then go work, instead, in mass tourism, the big-number tourism, at least in my case, I realized how much I wanted to go back to that one day instead.
That is, a tiny facility, where you still pamper people in a different way.

Besides beaches near Milan: what to do in Travo. The activities
After this nice cognitive chat, he introduced us to theTravo municipal administration, over a very good aperitif in Piazza Trento in the lovely little wine shop Simo’s Palate with excellent variety of wines.
Chatting, we find out that Travo is a youthful town: especially in summer there are Festivals, concerts, Dj Sets: the town is very much alive!
Yet the Trebbia Valley is still a bit of a virgin valley in terms of tourism-asserts the newly elected mayor of Travo Roberta Valla.
On tourism there is much to be done. At the municipal structure level, we do not have an exclusive staff for tourism, but we have already invested a lot of energy. For example, we did a book on the history of Travo.
We have the agreement with the Superintendence for the management of the archaeological park in Travo. Management is entrusted to a start-up of young people, an association ArcheoVea cultural enterprise.
Since last year with them, we have made an agreement with the curia to have them visit our churches as well: the Perduca Church. They now manage the openings of churches, including St. Antonine’s, in the village. Visits are by appointment only. The visits are working well!
This area is also famous because it is linked to the Goddess Minerva: it seems that the superintendence wants to resume research.
Cultural recurrences in Travo
Are there typical festivals and celebrations for which a tourist may stay several days?
There is a Jazz Festival run by Piacenza Jazz Fest and it is traveling, and it takes place at the foot of Perduca. Then we have the Travo Bala Folk Music Festival conceived by Phaedrus with which many famous artists came. There is also a Giana Anguissola Literary Festival: meetings with authors, music, theater and performances under the tower of the castle in Travo (PC).
Not just beaches near Milan: Places to Visit in the Trebbia Valley
Based on my experience, if you are not exclusively looking for beaches near Milan, and also want to visit historical and archaeological sites, I highly recommend a visit to the Archaeological Museum of Travo and the Archaeological Park of Travo. There are many interesting villages and towns in the Trebbia Valley. Visit the Val Trebbia Experience website to discover them all.
After finding a beach near Milan, there is a Trekking to discover: the Perduca Stone and the Parcellara Stone
It is a walk through an environment filled with mystery and perhaps magic. The conformation of the site is singular and eerie, with a cusp of rough rock emerging from the hilly clay landscape of Piacenza, at the beginning of the Apennines.
It is the Parcellara Stone, a large pancake of ophiolite (a serpentine rock from deep within the Earth) that, due to varying degrees of soil erosion, has been left alone to dominate the landscape. The surrounding area is home to seven unique natural habitats due to the nature of the soil and microclimatic conditions.
Such a place soon fueled popular imagination and superstition. Next to the Parcellara Stone is another rock formation, the Perduca Stone, recognizable by its small hermit church and mysterious ‘beds of saints’ carved into the rock.
